Government Employees Stage Massive Protest in Delhi, Demand Restoration of Old Pension Scheme

New Delhi: Thousands of government employees from various parts of the country converged at Delhi’s historic Ramlila Maidan, raising their collective voice in a massive protest to demand the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme. The protest witnessed a surge in participation as government workers expressed their concerns over the current pension system.

The government employees, representing various departments and regions, rallied together under a common banner to express their discontent with the current pension scheme. They argue that the Old Pension Scheme provided greater financial security and stability for retired government workers, ensuring a dignified life after years of service.

The primary demand of the protesters is the reinstatement of the Old Pension Scheme, which was replaced by the National Pension System (NPS) for government employees who joined service after a certain date. The employees have raised concerns about the NPS, citing uncertainties about the returns on their contributions and a lack of assurance in post-retirement financial security.

The protest in Delhi marks a significant development in the ongoing movement to restore the Old Pension Scheme. Similar protests and demonstrations have taken place in various states across the country in recent months, underscoring the widespread support for this demand among government employees.

The collective action by government employees is expected to put pressure on the authorities to address their concerns and reconsider the pension system. Any disruption in government services due to the ongoing protests could also draw further attention to the issue.

As of now, there has been no official response from the government regarding the demands of the protesting employees. However, the employees remain resolute in their demand for the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme and have vowed to continue their agitation until their concerns are addressed.

The protest at Ramlila Maidan serves as a powerful reminder of the significance of pension schemes for government employees and the growing unrest among this segment of the workforce. The coming days may witness intensified efforts from both sides to resolve this issue and ensure a secure retirement for government employees.
