Getting water connection in Ranchi will now be costly. Earlier, where Ranchi Municipal Corporation used to give connection for 500 rupees, now people will have to pay at least 7 thousand and maximum 42 thousand rupees for this. In fact, last year the state government had approved the Jharkhand Water Works, Water Surcharge, Water Connection Rules-2020. But the public representatives of the Ranchi Municipal Corporation board had refused to implement the Water Connection Rules-2020 in the Ranchi Municipal Corporation area, citing the burden on the public.

But once again the Water Connection Manual-2020 is being brought in the meeting of the Municipal Corporation Board. Which is going to be considered fixed this time to get approval in the board meeting. The State Government has implemented the Combination Rules-2020 in all the municipal bodies of Jharkhand. There is every possibility that this proposal will be approved in the meeting of Ranchi Municipal Corporation Board on September 15.

A provision has also been made in the new rules to increase the water tax every three years. According to departmental officials, the tax hike will be determined on the basis of the increase in electricity rate.

In the new rules, a provision has been made for heavy fines for illegal connections. If caught taking illegal connections, domestic consumers will have to pay a fine of up to Rs 4,000 and other consumers up to a maximum of Rs 10,000.
