New Delhi, EW News: The haunting memories of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, a year of pain, oppression, and destruction for the Sikh community, continue to cast a long shadow. Today, on the 39th anniversary of that tragic chapter in history, producer-director Vikram Sandhu, a member of the Sikh community, unveiled the reference teaser of his forthcoming film, “Sarkari Katl-e-Aam 1984.”
The teaser launch event took place at the wall of truth, situated at Gurdwara Rakabganj Sahib on Parliament Street, Gurdwara Road, Delhi, where a memorial stands in memory of the victims of the 1984 riots.
The Hindi feature film, produced under the banner of VS Film Worldwide, seeks to bring to the forefront the pain and suffering endured by the Sikh community during those dark days. The event drew a significant gathering of dignitaries, celebrities, and the widows of those who lost their lives in the riots.
Renowned RJ Anurag Pandey hosted the event, while notable Bollywood actors, including Ali Asgar, Deepak Kumar, Deepraj Rana, Sanjay Swaraj, Janhvi Vora, Gulshan Pandey, Sanjeev Jotangia, Divya Lakshmi, Pammi Bai (Punjabi Actor), Hobby Dhariwal, Raj Dhariwal, and Tarun Madan (Special Guest from Panchkula), graced the occasion.
The event was attended by distinguished delegates, including Sardar Harpreet Singh Kalka (President, Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee), Sardar Jagdeep Singh Kahlon (General Secretary, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee), Sardar Harvinder Singh Phulka (Advocate, Sikh Gurudwara 1984 Anti-riots), Padmashree Sardar Jagjit Singh Dardi, Sardar Bhupendra Singh Bhullar, and Sardar Dr. Ravel Singh.
Vikram Sandhu, the creative force behind “Sarkari Katl-e-Aam 1984,” shared his personal connection to the tragic events of 1984. “Even today, I get goosebumps when I hear about the 1984 riots. I belong to the Sikh community, and my ancestors also endured that pain. I had envisioned long ago that one day I would bring this truth to the screen, and today, with courage and determination, I’ve taken the first step.”
During the program, Vikram Sandhu extended his support to the widows of those who lost their lives in the 1984 riots by presenting them with shawls and kits, honoring their enduring strength and resilience.
As “Sarkari Katl-e-Aam 1984” aims to shed light on this dark chapter in history, it holds the promise of being a powerful and emotionally charged cinematic portrayal of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, ensuring that the world never forgets the pain and suffering endured by the Sikh community during that time.
