Wild elephant kills couple in Jamtara

Jamtara, A couple was killed by a wild elephant in Maldiha village under Fatehpur police station area of this district on Sunday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Jiyalal Pawariya (52) and his wife Sonamani Tudu. Villagers said that both of them were trying to scare away the elephant when they were caught and crushed to death.
Upon receiving information ranger Pratima Kumari, BDO Mukesh Kumar Bauri and CO Pankaj Kumar alongwith police team reached the spot and inquired into the incident. However the angry villagers for hours kept the ranger sorrounded in the village demanding that the tusker be scared away from their village first.
Prior to that as an immediate compensation a sum of Rs 10,000 was given to the son of the deceased couple. Locals said that in the morning the couple along with another person were going towards the pond when they came face to face with the animal.
One of the man saved himself by hiding while the couple tried to scare away the elephant but unfortunately they were caught by the tusker who crushed them to death.
