Bengaluru, EW Correspondent: Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with MoS V. Somanna and Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board, Satish Kumar, visited the Railway Training Institute in Bengaluru, marking a significant milestone for the institution. This visit was notable for its engagement with over 150 trainees, including drivers, assistant drivers, and technical staff.
During the visit, Vaishnaw addressed the trainees’ long-standing demand for a more comfortable and modern uniform, acknowledging the importance of practicality and modernization. The discussions also covered broader topics such as training curriculum, infrastructure improvements, and career development, with a collaborative approach to decision-making.
In an unprecedented gesture, the Minister and his colleagues shared lunch with the trainees, fostering a sense of camaraderie. The visit concluded with a group photograph, symbolizing a new era of trust and cooperation between the Ministry of Railways and its staff.
The visit was followed by the official introduction of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train at BEML Bengaluru. This new addition to the Vande Bharat series is set to revolutionize Indian rail travel. The train, with a maximum operational speed of 160 kilometers per hour, offers a fusion of advanced technology and comfort, setting a new benchmark for long-distance journeys in India.
Designed with world-class facilities and superior interiors, the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train features austenitic stainless steel construction, crash-worthy safety features, and an aerodynamic exterior. It meets the highest fire safety standards (EN 45545 Hazard Level 03) and includes special berths and toilets for differently-abled passengers. The train also boasts modern amenities like integrated reading lights with USB charging, a public announcement system, and a spacious luggage room.
With a capacity of 823 berths across 16 coaches—611 in AC 3 Tier, 188 in AC 2 Tier, and 24 in First Class AC—the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is poised to transform rail travel in India, offering a level of comfort and efficiency previously unseen in the country.
