Tripura to send pineapple as goodwill gesture to Bangladesh PM

Agartala, Overwhelmed after receiving the gift of global-acclaimed Haribanga variety of mango from Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb announced to send world famous queen variety of pineapple as gift-back to Hasina as a gesture to strengthen bilateral relations.

The Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Agartala Mohammad Jobayed Hosen has handed over the goodwill gift of the mango consignment of 300 kg to the Chief Minister at secretariat. Hasina has sent the similar consignment a gesture to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and to the Chief Ministers of West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya and Mizoram, which shares a border with Bangladesh.

“Prime Minister of Bangladesh is a motherly figure to me and receiving such a lovely gift consignment of world famous mangoes is a blessing, which shows the feeling of Bangladesh about people of Tripura. We have a historical relationship with Bangladesh and after Modiji led government came to power, it got further boost,” Deb observed.

He stated, “When she (Hasina) shared one of their best products with us, it reflected the feelings of Bangladesh towards India, now it’s our turn to reciprocate. We shall send the famous queen variety pineapple of Tripura to Bangladesh Prime Minister as our respect to the people of our neighbour.”

The pineapple, lemon and jackfruit of Tripura have already earned a global tag in three years. Demand for horticulture items has been growing mainly in UK and Middle East countries, which has hiked the price of the produce in the local market and encouraged the farmers to grow those in commercial scale, said agriculture and farmers welfare minister Pranajit Singharoy.
