NEW DELHI : The Kejriwal Government is committed to enhancing the infrastructure of Delhi Government’s hospitals. The health infrastructure of the city is being strengthened on a rapid scale, and the focus is on high-quality treatment that is easily accessible to all the people of Delhi. 6836 ICU beds will be added in 7 hospitals in Delhi. After which the capacity of ICU beds in Delhi will increase to seventeen thousand. The Cabinet has given its approval under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.The new beds will be set up at Sarita Vihar, Shalimar Bagh, Sultanpuri, Kirari, Raghubir Nagar, GTB Hospital and Chacha Nehru Children’s Hospital. Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal said that there are about 10,000 ICU beds in government hospitals in Delhi. With the addition of new 6800 beds, the capacity of ICU beds will increase by almost 70 percent. If there is a wave of COVID then people will get help in treatment at that time if the wave does not come, then the new beds will be ready for the people of Delhi permanently, the CM said. Health Minister Shri Satyendar Jain said that 6836 new beds will be made by the Kejriwal government at 7 hospitals at a cost of Rs 1216.72 crore.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, “Almost 7000 new ICU beds are being added to Delhi Government’s hospitals. This is like bringing a complete transformation into the health infrastructure of Delhi. Delhi Government’s hospitals at present have a capacity of 10,000 ICU beds, a 70% increase is being made to this number. This is no small task, but these beds will be ready within 6 months. On one hand, it will help in dealing with the third COVID-19 wave, on the other if the wave does not come, they will act like additional beds for regular treatment.”
The proposed facilities have been designed to function as COVID hospitals. However, after the ending of the COVID pandemic, the same would be utilised for other specialised hospital services. The facilities will consist of three Sub-buildings, Emergency/OPD/ Ward Block and Services Building, including space for PSA / Oxygen Tanks and Multi Level Car Parking Block. The provisions have also been made for the addition of one floor in future in case of requirement.
Health Minister Satyendar Jain took to Twitter to share the news, “l 6836 new beds are going to be made at a cost of 1216.72 crores by Delhi Govt at Shalimar Bagh, Kirari, Sarita Vihar, Sultanpuri, Raghuveer Nagar, GTB Hospital as well as Chacha Nehru Hospital.
The Delhi Cabinet under the chairmanship of CM Arvind Kejriwal approved the project.”
6836 beds are being added throughout Delhi
1430 beds will be added in the Shalimar Bagh Government Hospital, 458 at the Kirari Government Hospital, 1912 at the GTB Hospital, 1565 beds in Raghubir Nagar, 610 beds at CNBC, Geeta Colony, 525 beds at the Sultanpuri hospital.
Beds to be ready in 6 months, 1216 crores pumped in to the project
The Delhi Government is working on war footing to ramp up the health infrastructure of Delhi and has pumped in rupees 1,216.72 crores for the project. The new beds will be ready within 6 months and will come as a huge relief in any future waves of the pandemic.
A big step in the direction of achieving the target of 37000 beds in Delhi
The Delhi Government is not taking any chances and is making thorough preparations in estimation of an impending third wave of COVID-19. In the same prospect the addition of these beds will not only ramp up the ICU bed facilities by 70% but also be monumental in achieving the target of 37,000 beds in the state.
