Jharkhand made a quantum jump in literacy rate, increased by 49% in 50 years

Ranchi: Jharkhand has made a quantum leap in the field of literacy in the last 50 years. Jharkhand’s literacy rate has increased by about 49.33 percent in the last 50 years, but even then, there is a challenge to make about 27 percent of the illiterate people literate in the state. The estimated literacy rate in the state at present is around 73 per cent. According to the report prepared by the Department of School Education and Literacy, the literacy rate in the year 1961 was 21.14 percent.

There was no major change in the percentage of literacy rate for the next decade i.e. till 1971. After 1991, the percentage of literacy increased rapidly. The estimated literacy rate of Jharkhand in the year 2018-19 was 73.2 percent.

The literacy percentage of female in the state has increased faster than than males. The total literacy rate of Jharkhand in the year 2001 was 53.56 percent. The literacy percentage of males was 67.3 and that of females was 38.87. In the year 2011, the total literacy rate of Jharkhand increased by 12.8 percent. Literacy increased to 66.4 percent. During this period, the literacy rate of males increased by 9.50 and the literacy rate of females increased by 16.50%.
