Celebrations of Chhath Puja turn into tragedy as four children drown in Giridih

Giridih, The festivities around Chhath Festival turned into tragedy as four children, including three girls, drowned in a river in Mangrodih village under the Muffasil Police Station area of this district on Tuesday. 

The deceased have been identified as Munna Kumar, Somya Kumari, Sonakshi Kumari and another girl. All the children are in the age group of 10-12 years. 

Police said that some of the women had gone to take bath in the river in wake of rituals surrounding around Chhath festival. Some children had also accompanied these women to the river. 

The children drowned while taking bath in the river but unfortunately the women did not realise the same and returned to their homes. After some time when the people realised that the children were missing, they rushed to the river. 

The youth took out all the four children from the water and rushed them to the hospital where doctors declared them dead. Upon receiving information a team of Muffasil Police too reached the village. 

The bodies have been sent for postmortem to Sadar Hospital.
