CBI informs HC judge died due to being hit by autorickshaw, conspiracy & motive being probed

Ranchi, The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday informed the Jharkhand High Court that Additional District and Sessions Judge Uttam Anand had died after being hit by an autorickshaw.

However, the conspiracy and motive behind the incident are being probed. While hearing the case the court of Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan and Justice SN Prasad directed to provide proper security to both the culprits. The court suspected that if a larger conspiracy is involved then there might be attacks on them therefore the court directed them to make them travel by flights whenever necessary. The court later fixed September 3 as the next date of hearing.

During the hearing, the Home Secretary and Director of FSL were also present in the court. The court said that when there was only one FSL lab in the state therefore it should be equipped with all the necessary facilities. The court sought answers from the FSL director over the number of vacant posts, need of requirements for conducting necessary tests etc.

The court later asked the Home Secretary and FSL Director to appear before the court in the next hearing. Earlier in the previous hearing held on August 19, the court had commented that it was unfortunate that the FSL laboratory did not have facilities to conduct essential tests.

Judge Uttam Anand was killed after being hit by an autorickshaw on his way to morning walk near Randhir Verma Chowk on July 28 in Dhanbad. Later the state government had transferred the case to CBI.
