B’desh: Three die as boat capsizes in Padma river in Chapainowabgonj



Dhaka, Three people drowned when a boat carrying 40 passengers capsized in the river Padma in Bangladesh’s Chapainawabganj district, local authorities said.

The mishap occurred at Panka union under Shibganj Upazila in the district at about 2:00pm on Wednesday.

Shibganj Police Station OC Farid Hossain said that three people died in the incident.  

According to the sources, many are still missing and search operation is still on.  

The deceased incudes Lilimon Begum, 62, and her son-in-law Siam. The identity of the other deceased is being ascertained.

Local health worker Asaduzzaman Asad said the boat carrying around 40 people was going to the Bishrosia from Boglauri Ghat. When it reached near Luxmipur Char, it was hit by a storm and capsized in the river.
