AP CM asks women to download Disha app to get help from police

Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy asked all women to download the Disha app, formulated especially to provide police protection to women when they are in trouble.

Participating in the Disha App awareness programme held at Gollapudi near here on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said that the Disha app gives protection to women like a brother.

He asked the women police personnel and mahila mitras to visit every household and sensitize women on the Disha app.

A massive awareness drive should be taken up on the Disha app, Mr Reddy said.

“As many as 17 lakh women have downloaded the Disha app.

The Disha app has won four awards. Over one crore women should download the Disha app. If one SOS button is pressed in the app, the police will reach the woman who were in trouble within minutes” the Chief Minister said.

 

Mr Reddy informed that 900 patrolling teams were set up and some more would be formed soon especially to provide protection to women.

The Chief Minister said that 18 Disha police stations had been set up in which all women police personnel were working.

During the event, volunteers demonstrated the use of Disha App in the presence of Chief Minister and soon after pressing SoS, Bhavanipuram police responded and immediately reached the location in minutes.

He expressed satisfaction over the performance of the App.

Ministers Mekathoti Sucharita, Pamula Pushpa Srivani, Peddireddy Ramachandrea Reddy, Vellampalli Srinivasa Rao, Kodali Venkateswara Rao, I&PR minister Perni Venkatramaiah and DGP Gautam Sawang were among those who were present.
