Northern Railways significant efforts to help farmers to transport their millets produce

New Delhi:  Ashutosh Gangal, General Manager Northern Railway informed that Delhi division of Northern Railway helping Millet (Bajra) Farmers to send their produce to the farthest corners of the country

Delhi Division of Northern Railway has made significant efforts to help farmers transport their millet produce through Railways. With the beginning of loading of the first rake of Millet (Bajra) on 11 April 2021 from Kaithal and its transportation to Chavadipaliyam, Tamil Nadu, Delhi Division has achieved a new milestone. With this initiative, the farmers (Small/Medium to Large) are now able to send their produce to the markets in the farthest of the corners of India in minimum time. This initiative has helped Millet farmers to send their produce to regions with high demand, thus also fulfilling the nutritional requirements of the remotest corners. This is eventually leading more farmers to get attracted towards the partnership with Railways in transporting their goods across the country.

Till now, Delhi Division has loaded 20 (Twenty) rakes from loading points including, Kaithal, Jhajjar, Rohtak, Gohana and Palwal. These rakes have been transported to various destinations of Tamilnadu and Karnataka. The Total Tonnage of millets Loaded and transported has been 65,833 Metric tonnes in 20 rakes.

The important part of the initiative is that Railways is proactively engaging farmers to transport food grain. Railway is also encouraging piecemeal loading. Hence, Small or medium farmers can also avail this opportunity by booking even 5 to 10 wagons also. This will help them to transport their produce in a rather affordable and speedy way.  Railway policy of Piecemeal loading will ultimately prove as a boom in their revenue whilst covering the whole country.
