DAC Clears Capital Proposals Worth Rs 84,560 Crore to Strengthen Armed Forces

DAC's endorsement of these proposals underscores the government's proactive approach toward modernizing the armed forces

New Delhi, EW News: In a move aimed at bolstering the capabilities of the Armed Forces and the Indian Coast Guard, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has greenlit capital acquisition proposals worth Rs 84,560 crore.

The approvals, granted during a meeting on Friday, underscore the government’s commitment to enhancing indigenous defense manufacturing, with a particular focus on sourcing equipment from Indian vendors.

According to a statement from the Defence Ministry, the sanctioned proposals encompass a wide array of cutting-edge military hardware, including new generation anti-tank mines, Air Defence Tactical Control Radar, Heavy Weight Torpedoes, Medium Range Maritime Reconnaissance and Multi-Mission Maritime Aircraft, Flight Refueller Aircraft, and Software Defined Radios.

Of particular note is the emphasis placed on procuring equipment developed domestically, aligning with the government’s ‘Buy Indian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured (IDDM)’ initiative. This strategic directive aims to foster self-reliance in defense production and reduce dependence on imports.

The DAC’s endorsement of these proposals underscores the government’s proactive approach toward modernizing the armed forces while simultaneously promoting indigenous defense manufacturing capabilities. The move is expected to not only enhance the operational readiness of the armed forces but also stimulate growth in the domestic defense industry, contributing to the vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India).
