Tusker separated from group kills five in a week

Jamtara, A wild tusker who has got separated from its group has killed five people in a week.

On Wednesday the elephant killed Shankar Singh (45) in Kala Jharia village of this district while on June 22 it had killed two people in Kairon block of neighbouring Deoghar district. On June 20 a couple was killed in Jamtara by the same elephant.

Forest Officer of Jamtara Achintya Banker said that the elephant which has got separated from its group has killed five people so far. He said that the forest department is trying to scare away the tusker towards the Tundi forest.

The DFO said that kin of the deceased will be provided compensation as per government norms however as immediate help a sum of Rs 10,000 has been extended.

Unfortunately, the forest department lacks the mechanism to control the elephant menace and often their act is just confined to scaring the animal from their areas.
