Hyderabad, The prime suspect in the rape and murder of a six-year-old girl in Saidabad here, allegedly committed suicide on a railway track, on the outskirts of the city, on Thursday. The body of the prime suspect 27-year-old Raju in rape and murder of a minor girl at Singareni Colony on September 9, was found on the railway track at Station Ghanpur and based on the fugitive both arms sport tattoos with the name ‘ Mounika,’ he was identified, police said here.
The girl’s body wrapped in a bed sheet was found in the home of Raju, who is her neighbour.
Confirming the tracing of the prime suspect body on the railway track, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar said that the information was passed on to his family members and all necessary legal formalities are under process.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Telangana Minister for Municipal Administration K T Rama Rao said “ Just been informed by @TelanganaDGP Garu that the beast, who raped the child has been traced and found dead on a railway track at Station Ghanpur.
Few hours before tracing the body of the prime accused in heinous act, Telangana Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali and Child Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod, who consoled the family members of the victim after few days of the incident, have handed over Rs 20 lakh as ex-gratia to them.
Hyderabad police had earlier announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh for providing information on the suspect.
Amid ongoing protests by political parties and outcry over the incident, Labour Minister Ch Malla Reddy , who is known for making controversial remarks, on Wednesday said that laws should be enacted to ‘encounter the culprits’ who resort to such heinous crimes.
He said stringent laws should be made to deter such crimes in society.
