SAS Nagar (Mohali), Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Tuesday inaugurated Sub-Junior and Cadet Judo National Championship here at Chandigarh University Gharuan.
Announcing a grant of Rs 20 lakh to the Punjab Judo Association for the promotion of Judo sport in the state, he also announced to build an Ultra modern world class Indoor Judo Stadium in the state. He asked Punjab Judo federation to identify suitable chunk of land for the construction
of world class stadium. He said that these steps were being taken to develop sports culture in the state to eventually enable the Punjabi Youth restoring glory at the International level judo competitions.
Mr Channi also lauded the enormous contribution of Punjab Judo Association which took up the challenge to hold the first National level tournament after the COVID-19 pandemic and termed this endeavour on the part of association as a humongous task in the present situation.
Earlier the President of Judo Federation of India Partap Singh Bajwa welcomed the participant players and thanked the Chief Minister for providing support to the event. He also thanked the Chancellor of Chandigarh University, Satnam Singh Sandhu for allowing the Punjab Judokas Association and the Judo Federation of India to host these National Championships on the Chandigarh University campus.
Prominent amongst others who were present on the occasion included General Secretary (Interim) Venkat Namisetty, Treasurer Kailash Yadav, President of Punjab Judo Association Vikram Singh Bajwa, General Secretary Dev Singh Dhaliwal, Surinder Kumar besides officials of the Punjab Judo Association.
