New Delhi: Opposition parties have launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding its recently unveiled Lok Sabha manifesto, criticizing it for what they deem as a lack of focus on crucial issues such as inflation and unemployment.
In a sharp rebuke, opposition leaders labeled the BJP’s manifesto as a ‘jumla patra,’ accusing it of being filled with empty promises that fail to address the pressing concerns of the populace. They contend that the absence of any mention of inflation and unemployment reflects the party’s disregard for the economic hardships faced by ordinary citizens.
The BJP’s manifesto, unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, purportedly emphasizes initiatives targeting the welfare of marginalized sections like the poor, youth, farmers, and women. Among the key pledges are commitments to implementing a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and advocating for simultaneous elections across the nation under the banner of ‘One Nation, One Election.’
Reacting to the manifesto, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized the BJP for overlooking issues like inflation and unemployment, asserting that the document failed to address the core concerns affecting people’s lives. He outlined the Congress’s agenda, promising initiatives such as massive job creation and ensuring a dignified livelihood for every educated youth.
Echoing similar sentiments, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra denounced the BJP’s manifesto as a facade, alleging that the party’s true agenda aimed at undermining the Constitution. She urged all opposition parties to unite against the purported assault on democratic principles and constitutional values by the BJP.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge lambasted PM Modi for what he deemed as a failure to deliver on past promises, particularly regarding the upliftment of all sections of society. He cast doubt on the credibility of the BJP’s manifesto, citing unfulfilled assurances related to farmers’ income and minimum support prices.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Pawan Khera accused the BJP of resorting to deceitful tactics, labeling their manifesto as a compilation of hollow promises. He criticized the party for constantly shifting its goalposts and introducing new ‘jumlas’ (rhetoric) without being held accountable for past pledges.
AAP leader Atishi echoed these sentiments, branding the BJP’s manifesto as a ‘jumla patra’ devoid of substantial measures to address the prevailing issues of inflation and unemployment. She highlighted the growing economic distress faced by ordinary citizens and expressed skepticism towards the credibility of the BJP’s electoral promises.
In a similar vein, Congress leader Manish Tewari criticized the BJP’s manifesto for sidestepping the issue of inflation, emphasizing the need for concrete measures to alleviate the economic burden on the common man. He warned that the BJP’s disregard for pressing issues could translate into electoral defeat for the ruling party.
The release of the BJP’s manifesto, titled ‘Modi’s Guarantee 2024,’ comes amidst heightened political fervor in the lead-up to the Lok Sabha elections. While the document underscores commitments to women empowerment, youth upliftment, and poverty alleviation, opposition parties remain critical of its purported omissions and question the party’s sincerity in addressing the nation’s challenges.
