Palghar, One person was killed and five others were injured in an explosion and fire at a textile factory in the Tarapur MIDC industrial estate area here on Saturday, the district authorities said.
Vivekanand Kadam, chief of the disaster management cell of the Palghar district, said the explosion took place in the thermo pack unit in the cloth manufacturing company (Zakaria Industries) at Boisar area around 0600 hrs in Tarapur, killing one person.
The injured were rushed to a local hospital.The explosion was so loud that the noise was heard at a distance of four to five kms, he added.
The explosion was followed by a massive fire in the unit, he said. The cause of the mishap was not immediately known.
Search was underway for two more persons who were said to be missing, according to Mr Kadam. The fire is brought under control and the cooling operations was underway, he added.
