Jharkhand’s first Idea Lab will be set up at BIT Mesra. Here students will be able to realize their innovative thinking. In the lab, students can model their prototypes. The lab will be equipped with all modern equipment. The lab will be built in 5 thousand square feet. Here about 50 students will be able to prepare models along with taking training at a time. The Idea Lab will be open 24 hours a day throughout the week.
The Lab is guided by Dr. Indranil Manna, VC, BIT Mesra, Dr. Priyank Kumar, Co-ordinator, and Dr. Sudip Das, Co-Coordinator. Dr. Sudip Das said that many types of tools are needed for innovation. In the absence of this, the students were not able to prepare their model. Sometimes goods had to be brought from outside. In this lab there will be from lathe machine to drilling machine.
In the first phase, this lab will encourage the students of BIT Mesra only. In the second phase, students of nearby colleges can also take advantage of this. AICTE is also getting cooperation in preparing the Idea Lab.
The Idea Lab of BIT Mesra will have more than 100 state-of-the-art electronics equipment including 3D machines, CNC machines, laser cutters, drillers, laser equipment, portable lathe machines, IoT systems, and insects related to artificial intelligence. Around 70 to 80 lakh equipments will be installed in the lab. With their help, a better idea can be first prototyped, then the product form. The cost of this idea lab is Rs 1.10 crore.Dr. Priyank Kumar said that in the coming days, with the help of this lab, different types of products can be prepared to overcome the problems of society. For example, smart devices for disabled people, brain mapping, new tools can be prepared in the field of farmers and health etc. The lab will also prove to be helpful in the skill development of the people of the industry. Working with the government can also be done on new innovations.
