High Court orders contempt case on Advocate General & Additional Advocate General of Jharkhand

Ranchi, The Jharkhand High Court on Wednesday ordered to start a contempt case against Advocate General Rajeev Ranjan and Additional Advocate General Sachin Kumar. The court has issued notice against the duo. Earlier the court had completed hearing in the case on Tuesday and had kept its order reserved in the case. In connection with the death case of SI Rupa Tirkey the petitioner had filed an Interlocutory Petition for starting of a contempt case against the Advocate general and Additional Advocate general.

In the petition it was said that conduct of Rajeev Ranjan and Sachin Kumar was against the decorum of the court therefore a contempt court should be filed against them.Senior lawyer of the Supreme Court Kapil Sibal had appeared before the court from the side of the Advocate General and Additional Advocate General and had urged that contempt proceedings should not be started against the duo.

He had also given unconditional apology on behalf of the duo before the court.

Sibal had argued that if the matter comes in written form it will be in the records of the court therefore this matter should not be unnecessarily dragged on which the court had asked as to whether the Advocate general can indulge in such type of behaviour before the court. The court had said that the act of the Advocate general had raised questions over the institution of judiciary itself.
