High Court bans release of merit list for the appointment of junior engineers, seeks reply in three weeks

Jharkhand High Court has stayed the release of merit list for the appointment of Junior Engineers on contract in Rural Development Department. If the merit list has been issued, it will not be effective till further orders. The court of Justice Rajesh Shankar gave this direction while hearing the petition of Uttam Kumar and others.

The court has also directed the government to file its reply in three weeks. Rural Development Department is recruiting 526 Junior Engineers all over the state on contract. During the hearing of the case on Wednesday, advocate Amritansh Vats of the applicant told the court that district wise advertisement was issued for the contractual appointment of Junior Engineer in the Rural Development Department for the year 2020-21.

For appointment to the post in the advertisement, the educational qualification was mandatory to have 60 percent marks for Diploma holders in Civil Engineering and 50 percent marks for SC-ST. But in the provisional merit list released by the department, it was found that the candidates who have done B.Tech directly have also been selected. Whereas the studies of those who do diploma and those who do BTech are quite different. Hence the merit list should be cancelled. The applicant had applied for the post out for Ranchi District.
