Government Launches CM Fellowship Scheme to Boost Academic Excellence

SANJAY PANDEY Ranchi: The state government of Jharkhand has introduced the CM Fellowship Scheme aimed at promoting research among students pursuing Ph.D. from government or non-government universities in the state. Under this scheme, students who qualify the UGC NET and CSIR NET exams will receive a monthly incentive of ₹25,000, while those who pass the Jharkhand Eligibility Examination will receive ₹22,500 per month for up to 4 years. Approximately 1000 students are expected to benefit from this initiative annually.
Rahul Purwar, Principal Secretary of the Higher and Technical Education Department, announced the Guruji Student Credit Scheme, a significant initiative of the state government. This scheme provides a concessional interest rate of 4% annually on education loans up to ₹15 lakhs for students seeking education in prestigious educational institutions. Additionally, students are exempted from paying Equated Monthly Installments (EMIs) until completion of their courses.
Purwar highlighted the government’s plan to provide free coaching to students in reputed coaching institutes for competitive exams such as UPSC, JPSC, and others, along with a monthly stipend of ₹2500. The scheme targets 27000 students who have completed their 12th grade in Jharkhand.
Furthermore, the state government plans to launch the Manaki Munda Scholarship Scheme for students in technical education institutions. This initiative will provide an annual assistance of ₹15,000 for diploma courses and ₹30,000 for degree courses. Purwar informed that these are just a few of the upcoming programs and initiatives to enhance the quality of education in the state, including improvements in the remuneration of teachers and the redevelopment of science centers across various districts. The government has also decided to establish a digital planetarium in Netarhat.
The Principal Secretary concluded the press conference by stating that these initiatives align with the New Education Policy 2020 and emphasized the commitment to monitor and enhance the standard of private universities in the state.
