Islamabad, At least five passengers, including women and children, were killed when a passenger van plunged into a seasonal ditch in Pakistan’s eastern Punjab province on Wednesday, police and rescue officials said.
The van carrying 10 passengers was on its way to a village near Head Jaggu area of Gujrat district of the province when the driver lost control of the vehicle and fell into the roadside ditch, Muhammad Faisal, an official of emergency rescue service Rescue 1122 in Gujrat told Xinhua.
Five dead bodies have been recovered by the rescue personnel so far, said the official, adding that the rest of those onboard were rescued, and have been shifted to a nearby hospital for medical assistance.
Police in the area told Xinhua that the accident happened due to negligence of the driver as he was driving fast despite heavy rains.
