New Delhi, EW News: To aimed at boosting transportation and economic prospects in the state of Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a meeting with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav at Rail Bhawan in New Delhi. The high-level meeting centered on discussions concerning the enhancement of rail connectivity in the region.
During the meeting, Chief Minister Dhami passionately advocated for several key initiatives to strengthen Uttarakhand’s rail infrastructure. Notably, he emphasized the urgent need for the construction of the long-awaited Tankpur-Bageshwar railway line. This move aligns with the impending operation of the Vande Bharat Express between Lucknow and Dehradun and the broader expansion of rail services in the hilly areas. Chief Minister Dhami fervently requested the Railway Minister’s swift approval for this crucial project.
In a bid to further improve transportation in the state, Chief Minister Dhami urged the commencement of a direct rail service connecting Ahmedabad to prominent Uttarakhand cities, including Kathgodam, Haridwar, and Dehradun. He also called for the re-operation of the Kotdwar coach in the Doon Express and the Ramnagar coach in the Janata Express. Additionally, Dhami proposed the introduction of a new rail service from Tanakpur to Mehandipur Balaji in Rajasthan, further expanding rail connectivity in the region.
Chief Minister Dhami highlighted that the expansion of rail services is expected to significantly ease transportation for both the residents of Uttarakhand and tourists. Given Uttarakhand’s status as a major tourism destination, this move is anticipated to strengthen the state’s economy substantially.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav reassured Chief Minister Dhami of the central government’s full commitment to these initiatives, pledging all possible cooperation to make these projects a reality.
