Taxpayers often expect a range of facilities and services from the government in return for their taxes. Some common expectations include high-quality public education and healthcare systems, efficient transportation networks, affordable housing options, reliable utility services, and adequate infrastructure for economic development. Taxpayers want their tax dollars to be utilized effectively and responsibly to provide these essential facilities that contribute to their quality of life.

One area where many taxpayers feel the government should focus more is on improving transparency and accountability. They expect the government to be accountable for its actions and decisions, ensuring that tax dollars are not wasted or misused. There is a need for increased public participation in decision-making processes, enhanced government responsiveness to citizen needs and concerns, and improved mechanisms for monitoring government performance. This includes personal income tax, capital gains tax, securities transaction tax, perquisite tax, corporate income tax, marginal income tax, and agricultural rate tax. Despite the significant amount of tax collected, government employees, in particular, experience poor facilities and services. They question why they are paying income tax to strengthen the country and improve their entitlements when they are still faced with toll fees for good highways, road taxes, and the need for health insurance with limited coverage. Overall, the burden of high taxes is felt by all Indians, leading to frustrations and grievances with the Income Tax department.

Dr. Nauseen Khan, a highly respected and accomplished Indian-Swedish medical scientist, has dedicated decades of her life to research and development in Sweden. She is in awe of the efficient and ethical tax system in Sweden, where individuals are dutifully and punctually paying around 30 percent of their income as taxes. Even profits made from property sales are subject to a reasonable 22 percent tax. This reflects the integrity and responsible nature of the Swedish people, who prioritize fulfilling their moral obligations towards their society. The Swedish government, in turn, diligently safeguards the interests of its citizens, ensuring their well-being in all aspects of life. A shining example of effective governance can be witnessed in the seamless functioning of public services, where everyone enjoys a hassle-free and comfortable lifestyle.
