Principal Correspondent: First time in Jharkhand, the government is working with a sensitive approach towards the issues of workers and laborers. On the instructions of Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren, the State Migrant Control Room is continuously working towards resolving their problems. From bringing back the stranded workers from other states to helping to get their due wages and resolving other related issues. These workers/labourers had to face tough times during the spread of Novel Coronavirus in the last two years. The laborers are compelled to return to their homes. In this situation, the state government swung into action and brought them back from other states through airplanes, trains and buses. Not only migrants from other states but also from across the border were brought back to their homes.
Department’s cooperation
A total of 9,66,393 workers have returned to Jharkhand between 27 March 2020 to 31 October 2021. Even after the lockdown, the State Migrant Control Room is active and is bringing back the stranded workers. During the said period, 1,58,652 workers of Giridih returned home, which is the highest among all the districts. Apart from this, 1,09,438 workers from Palamu, 78,539 from Garhwa, 78,414 workers from Hazaribagh, 69,752 workers from Godda, 42,932 workers from Koderma, 36,293 workers from West Singhbhum, 35,455 workers from Bokaro and 35,317 workers from Chatra have returned home. Apart from these, laborers of other districts have also returned to their homes.
Keeping an eye on the condition of the workers
The State Migrant Control Room and the FIA Foundation are monitoring the condition of these workers. According to the information received from the control room, these employees had to face many problems. Many of them were suffering from disease, many faced persecution, some of them were not getting their wages and remuneration. With the efforts of the department, Rs 84,84,647/- were provided to these workers as their arrears in various cases. Workers in Khunti district were paid more than Rs 14,52,420, while those in Ranchi were paid Rs 11,06,600, Giridih Rs 6,41,900, Garhwa Rs 4,11,377 and Rs 4,61,100 to Godda workers. Apart from this, the workers of other districts have also got their pending compensation. Also, the government is helping workers in other states to get legal aid.
