Hyderabad, The Depression over North Telangana and adjoining Vidarbha moved westnorthwestwards with a speed of 24 kmph during the last six hours and lay centered at 0530 hours on Tuesday over Telangana and adjoining areas of Marathwada & Vidarbha near Latitude. 18.9° North and Longitude 78.0° East, about 25 km Northwest of Nizamabad (Telangana) and 260 km south-southeast of Nagpur (Vidarbha).
It is likely to move west-northwestwards and weaken into a Well Marked Low Pressure Area during the next 6 hours, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a bulletin this morning.
The system is likely to emerge into northeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Gujarat coast around September 30 evening and there is likelihood for the system to further intensify over northeast Arabian Sea during the subsequent 24 hours.
The bulletin said squally wind, speed reaching 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph, is likely to prevail over North Telangana and adjoining districts of Marathwada and Vidarbha during the next 6 hours and decrease thereafter.
Meteorological Centre in Hyderabad said heavy rains is likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak and Kamareddy of Telangana during the next 24 hours.
Thunderstorm accompanied with Lightning is very likely to occur at isolated places in all the districts of Telangana. The forecast for Hyderabad is that there will be generally cloudy sky. Light to Moderate Rain/Thundershowers is very likely to occur in the city.
Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrashekar Rao announced holiday today in the wake of heavy rains. He reviewed the situation on Monday evening with Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar.
Mr Rao said that all government offices, including schools, colleges and educational institutions in the state, would be remain closed. The Chief Secretary said the emergency departments like Revenue, Police, Fire Services, Municipal, Panchayati Raj, Irrigation, Roads and Buildings should be on emergency duty to ensure that no property or lives are lost due to heavy rains.
The Telangana government had declared holidays for three days for legislative Assembly and Council, which is presently in session, from September 28, in the wake of heavy rains battering the State. Secretary to State Legislature Dr V Narasimha Charyulu announced this in a bulletin here.
The members in the house have made a request to Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy yesterday to adjourn the sittings of the ongoing session which is scheduled to meet on Tuesday. The request has been made so that the legislators could participate in the rescue and relief operations, address the grievances of the people in their respective constituencies and extend support to them.
