A dangerous escalation of conflict that has unfolded after Israel launched extensive air strikes targeting military and nuclear facilities across Iran, and killing several prominent military officials and scientists. That prompted immediate retaliation from the Islamic Republic. Brigadier General Effie Defrin, the Israeli military spokesperson, stated that 200 fighter jets struck approximately 100 targets across Iran, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirming that "Operation Rising Lion" hit Iran's main uranium enrichment facility in Natanz.

The Israeli aggression, which has shocked the peace loving people across the globe has been widely condemned by almost every country in the Middle East region. Iranian state media reported that the Israeli attacks resulted in significant casualties, including senior military commanders, top nuclear scientists, and civilians. Among those reported killed were Iranian armed forces chief of staff Mohammad Bagheri, Senior Revolutionary Guards commander Gholam Ali Rashid, and nuclear scientists Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi and Fereydoun Abbasi.

There were also claims of the deaths of Hossein Salami, commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and Gen Amir Ali Hajizadeh, head of Iran's Revolutionary Guard missile program. At least 95 people were wounded across 12 different provinces, and nuclear sites at Natanz, Khondab, and Khorramabad were targeted, alongside residential areas.

In response, Iran launched approximately 100 UAVs (drones) towards Israeli territory. Iran's armed forces have declared "no limits" on their response, with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei vowing "severe punishment" and a "strong response."

President Masoud Pezeshkian also warned of a "powerful" response that would make "the enemy regret its foolish act." The international community has reacted with concern, with the UN Secretary-General calling for "maximum restraint," and various nations urging a diplomatic resolution while others express solidarity or caution their citizens.
