Sensex and Nifty log marginal gains to hit record highs

The Sensex and the Nifty today logged marginal gains to hit record highs. The Sensex closed above the 52,500 mark while the Nifty settled above the 15,800 level.
The Sensex at Bombay Stock Exchange climbed 77 points, or 0.15 per cent, to finish at 52,552. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange also added 13 points, or 0.08 per cent, to close at 15,812.
The broader market at BSE logged losses underperforming the Sensex. The Mid-Cap index declined 0.68 per cent and the Small-Cap index lost 0.16 per cent.
In the Sensex pack, shares of 15 companies climbed while 15 fell. Reliance was the top gainer as it surged 1.5 per cent followed by Bajaj Finance which climbed 1.2 per cent. ONGC gained 1.1 per cent while Infosys and Power Grid, both rose one per cent.
In the list of companies which fell, Kotak Bank plunged one and half per cent while HDFC fell 0.8 per cent, Sun Pharma and Bajaj Auto, both declined 0.6 per cent.
In sectoral indices shares of eight out of 19 sectors climbed. Energy sector was the top gainer which rose 0.8 per cent. IT sector stocks gained half a per cent. Tech, Consumer Durables and Oil & Gas added 0.4 per cent each.
Among sectoral indices which fell, Power closed two per cent down. Shares of the Reality sector fell 1.6 per cent and Industrials slipped 1.1 per cent.
The overall breadth of the BSE trade was negative as shares of 1655 companies gained while 1663 fell. Shares of 163 companies remained unchanged.
