Kohima (Nagaland) : In a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of politicizing the upcoming Ram Mandir inauguration in Ayodhya. The Congress leader labeled the event as "Modi ka Function" while addressing reporters during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra on Tuesday.
Gandhi expressed his concerns, stating, "The RSS and the BJP have turned the 22nd January function into a completely political Narendra Modi affair. It's essentially an RSS-BJP function, and I believe that is why the Congress president has decided not to attend the ceremony."

The Ram Mandir inauguration, scheduled for January 22nd, has been a highly anticipated event, symbolizing the culmination of a long-standing legal and social debate over the disputed site in Ayodhya. However, Gandhi's remarks suggest a deep-seated political disagreement regarding the organization and execution of the ceremony.

Accusing the BJP and RSS of using the sacred occasion for political gains, Gandhi asserted, "This should be a moment of national unity and celebration. Unfortunately, it has been turned into a platform for political grandstanding. The divisive approach of the BJP and RSS is evident in their attempt to monopolize this auspicious event."

“We are with all religions. Whoever wants to go, even from congress, can go. But it’s difficult for us to go as the prime minister, who is our principal opposition, has made it into an election event,” Rahul said.

Gandhi's decision to refrain from attending the inauguration is seen as a strategic move to distance the Congress party from what he perceives as the BJP's attempt to take exclusive credit for the construction of the Ram Mandir. The Congress leader emphasized the need for maintaining the sanctity of religious events and urged for a non-political atmosphere during the inauguration.
