• Mizoram: Polling is scheduled for the 7th of November, with the notification being issued on the 13th of October. -- Chhattisgarh: This state will go to the polls in two phases, with the first phase on the 7th of November and the second on the 17th of November. Notifications for the first phase will be issued on the 13th of October and for the second phase on the 21st of October.

• Madhya Pradesh: Voting will take place on the 17th of November, with the notification set for the 21st of October.

• Rajasthan: The state's elections are scheduled for the 23rd of November, with notifications being issued on the 30th of October.

• Telangana: The final state to vote, Telangana, will hold its assembly elections on the 30th of November, with notifications being issued on the 3rd of November.

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India has officially declared the schedule for assembly elections in five states: Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana. These elections, slated to be held between the 7th and 30th of next month, hold significant importance as they represent the last assembly elections before the highly anticipated General Elections in 2024. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar assured the public that the Commission is committed to conducting free, fair, and inducement-free elections in these states.

In total, these five states have 679 assembly seats and a combined electorate of 16 crore voters. Of particular note is the inclusion of approximately 60 lakh first-time voters who will be participating in these elections, making their voices heard in the democratic process for the first time.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar also highlighted the Commission's efforts to ensure the integrity of the electoral process. He revealed that there will be 17,734 Model Polling Stations in these states, with 621 polling stations being managed by Persons with Disabilities (PwD) staff. Assured Minimum Facilities will be available at all polling stations to ensure the convenience of voters.

To combat electoral malpractice, the Election Commission has introduced the cVigil App, allowing citizens to report any irregularities. Mr. Kumar emphasized that there will be a response within 100 minutes for every complaint filed through the app, reinforcing the Commission's commitment to a fair and transparent election process.

Additionally, to prevent cross-border movement of illicit cash, liquor, freebies, and drugs, over 940 inter-state border check posts will be established in these five states. An election seizure management system has also been introduced to enhance oversight and maintain inducement-free elections.

With the election dates set and preparations underway, these five states will play a pivotal role in shaping the political landscape as the nation looks forward to the General Elections in 2024. The Election Commission's efforts to ensure a smooth, inclusive, and fair electoral process are expected to be closely watched by both voters and political observers.
