Drones a new technological threat; vital instillation, LoC put on high alert: IGP

Srinagar, Terming drones a new ‘technological threat that will be countered with technology’, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir range, said that security forces have been put on high alert at vital instillation and along the Line of Control (LoC) in the valley to counter any attack.
The Kashmir police chief made these comments while responding to a question during a press conference about the response of security force agencies in view of drone attack on Air Force Station Jammu on Sunday and Army personnel spotting and firing at two drones that were found hovering over the Kaluchak military station on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.

Meanwhile, the IGP said that a drone, which was hovering over world famous Dal Lake in the morning, has been confiscated and investigation has been initiated in the incident.

“A joint meeting of Army, CRPF, BSF and Air force, was on Sunday held during which detailed discusses was done about our response to this serious threat. It is a new technological threat and we will counter it with technology,” he told reporters.

The IGP said that security forces have been beefed up at viral instillations and along the LoC in Kashmir. However, Mr Kumar said that he can’t share further details as it is a strategic matter and pertains to the security of the nation.

He said another detailed meeting was held with General-Officer-Commanding (GOC) of the Srinagar-based 15 Corps on Monday. “Today morning, a drone was hovering over Dal Lake. We have confiscated it and registered an FIR. Investigation in the incident has been initiated,” he added.

The teams of Delhi Special Cell and National Security Guards on Tuesday afternoon reached the Jammu Air Force Station as a part of ongoing investigation into the drone attack. “The NSG team alongwith officers of Delhi Special Cell have reached the Air Force Station,” sources said.

Earlier in the day, the Ministry of Home Affairs handed over the drone attack probe case to the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) after a preliminary report of the incident was submitted to the ministry. Two bombs were airdropped at the IAF base, injuring two Indian Air Force personnel.
Initial findings have suggested the hand of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit in the blast case.
