New Delhi: Water Minister and Chairman of Delhi Jal Board, Satyendar Jain visited Shahdara Drain and Kalyanpuri Sewage Pumping Station. Satyendar Jain said that low-cost weirs are being constructed at the Shahdara Drain by the Delhi Government. To this, Satyendar Jain added that ponds will be created inside the drain to augment groundwater recharge using 70 MGD treated water from Kondli STP. Satyendar Jain also said that only clean water will be allowed to flow in the drain going into the Yamuna. At last, Satyendar Jain said that treated water from Kondli STP will be utilized to develop a 4 KM long groundwater recharge zone inside the drain. He also instructed officials to lay pipelines to carry treated effluent from Kondli STP to rejuvenate Sanjay Lake and Smriti Van Lake.

Satyendar Jain visited the outfall of Shahdara Drain with the officials on Friday. During the visit, Satyendar Jain inspected the work of the low-cost weir construction going on at the Shahdara Drain. He said, "A low-cost weir is being constructed on the Shahdara Drain by the Delhi Government."

He further added, "Ponds will be created to augment groundwater recharge using 70 MGD treated water from Kondli STP. Only clean water will be allowed to flow in the drain going to the Yamuna."

Thereafter, Satyendar Jain visited the 35 MGD Kalyanpuri Sewage Pumping Station at Shahdara Drain. He said, "It is now ready to divert complete wastewater from Shahdara Drain into Kondli Sewage Treatment Plant." To this, Shri Jain added, "The treated water from Kondli STP will be developed into a 4 km groundwater recharge zone inside the drain that will be used to rejuvenate Sanjay Lake & Smriti Van Lake."
