Ward Councillors Play Crucial Role in Making Ranchi an Ideal City: DC Manjunath Bhajantri
Ranchi: The Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri emphasized the vital role of ward councillors in transforming Ranchi into an ideal and citizen-friendly city during a meeting with councillors from various wards of the city on Monday. The meeting focused on key urban issues, including basic civic amenities, cleanliness, women’s safety, implementation of government welfare schemes, voter awareness, and building a drug-free society. During the discussion, the councillors also submitted a memorandum highlighting concerns related to civic infrastructure and public services in their respective wards.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that effective coordination between public representatives and the district administration is essential for developing Ranchi into a clean, safe, organized, and well-equipped city. He stressed the need to turn cleanliness into a mass movement at the ward level through active public participation. Detailed discussions were held on maintaining regular sanitation drives and ensuring cleanliness in public places across all wards. The Deputy Commissioner said that citizens’ involvement is necessary to make Ranchi cleaner and more beautiful.
On the issue of women’s safety, Manjunath Bhajantri appealed to all ward councillors to launch awareness campaigns in their respective areas. He highlighted the importance of community participation in ensuring the safety of women and adolescent girls. He also emphasized conducting awareness programmes in schools and localities and spreading information about women’s helplines among the public.
The Deputy Commissioner also discussed the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of the electoral roll and urged councillors to ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the voter list. He asked them to coordinate with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and spread awareness among residents. He said that a clean and updated voter list is the foundation of a strong democracy and requires active participation from elected representatives. The issue of rising substance abuse among youth was also discussed during the meeting. Manjunath Bhajantri stressed the need for social awareness, community vigilance, and family-level dialogue to build a drug-free society. He called for encouraging positive activities at the ward level and assured full cooperation from the district administration on all issues raised. Among those present at the meeting were ward councillor Mohammad Salauddin along with Shabana Khan, Babli Soni, Gazala Parveen, Butter Singh Deol, Pradeep Kumar, Sunil Yadav, Mohammad Ehtesham, Mohammad Aslam, and other public representatives.
