General Manager, Northern Railway, Sh. Ashutosh Gangal felicitated Sh. Vijay Sharma, the coach of Indian Weightlifting team, on 28.07.2021 on his return from Tokyo in Northern Railway Headquarters at Baroda House, New Delhi. Sh.Vijay Sharma, who is currently Chief Office Superintendent in Operating Department of Northern Railway Headquarters guided Ms. Mirabai Chanu to win Silver Medal in 49 Kg Weight Category in Tokyo 2020 Olympics. With this splendid performance Sh. Vijay Sharma has become eligible for promotion to OSD.
Apart from above, Sh. Vijay Sharma was the coach of Indian team in Rio 2016 Olympics also. In the World Championship of 2017 held in the USA, it was under mentorship of Sh. Vijay Sharma that Ms. Mirabai Chanu won a Gold Medal which was the first ever Gold Medal won by Indian. He has been the coach of India Weightlifting team in Asian and Commonwealth championships since 2014 wherein Indian team has given several medal winning performances. Indian team won 12 medals in the Commonwealth Games held in England in 2014 and 14 medals in the Commonwealth Games held in Australia in 2017. Also at present he is coach of Indian Railways as well as Northern Railway Teams.
Sh.Vijay Sharma has participated in IOC solidarity Diploma Course of International Weightlifting Federation in International Coaching at Budapest, Hungary from 6/9/14 to 5/12/14 and secured A grade with distinction.
