Will speak to CM to open indoor sports facilities, assures Sports Minister

Panaji, Goa Sports Minister Manohar Azgaonkar said that he would speak to Chief Minister on opening indoor sports facilities in the state.

‘Other states have opened up Indoor sports facilities to their players. Goa Government should also now remove the restrictions. Athletes must be allowed to start training immediately. I will speak to the Chief Minister on this and request him to open Indoor sport complexes for resumption of Indoor sports immediately next week,’ Mr Azgaonkar assured the Goa Olympic Association (GOA) delegation when they called on him to brief him about various issues pertaining to sports.

SAG also supported resumption of Indoor activities and opening of the stadiums.

V M Prabhudesai, Executive Director (SAG), was there in the Sports Minister’s chamber at Secretariat, Porvorim.

The GOA delegation, led by Secretary General Gurudatta Bhakta along with five representatives namely Raju Mangueshkar, Sandeep Heble, Rajendra Godinho, Nisha Madgavkar and Hemang Doshi, handed over a memorandum listing out various issues that need immediate attention of the Sports Ministry.

The delegation took up other important issues such as incomplete works of the swimming pool at Campal, pending grants to State sports associations and athletes, repair works at stadiums in Peddem and Chicalim and National Games among others.
