Lucknow: The Samajwadi Party has cleared its stand for the Rajya Sabha elections. On the basis of the current number of MLAs, out of 11 seats to be vacant in Uttar Pradesh, three are in the account of SP, on which the party has announced its candidates. SP has made Javed Ali as a party candidate for Rajya Sabha. Followed by independent candidate Kapil Sibal, who is being is supported by Samajwadi Party and the third candidate will be chief of RLD Jayant Chaudhary, who will be backed by SP.

The stand of SP shows intention of Akhilesh Yadav to secure his core vote bank and maintain the case alignment. By making Javed Ali a candidate, the party has made a positive move for the minority and supporting Kapil Sibal is being seen as a retaliation to help senior party leader Azam Khan get interim bail from the Supreme Court.

SP’s support to RLD chief Jayant is being considered as a key move as Akhilesh kept his promise of sending Jayant to Rajya Sabha which he made before the UP election at the time of seat sharing with RLD. It is Noted that RLD and SP fought the recently held Assembly Election together and in order to strengthen the bond Akhilesh has struck out the name of his wife Dimple Yadav replacing her with Jayant Chaudhary.
