It has been postponed even before the start of Ranji Trophy 2022. The tournament has been postponed after several players were found to be Corona positive. The BCCI has put on hold all domestic tournaments except the Ranji Trophy with immediate effect. However, the board has decided to continue the Cooch Behar Under-19 knock out matches as per the schedule. Recently, there were six cases of corona infection in the Bengal team, in which there were five players. Shivam Dubey of Mumbai was also found positive who is in isolation. The Ranji Trophy was to be held in six cities, including Bengaluru and Kolkata.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a statement on Tuesday that the Ranji Trophy, Col CK Nayudu Trophy and Senior Women’s T20 League for the 2021-22 season have been postponed in view of the rising COVID-19 cases in the country. The Ranji Trophy and the Col CK Nayudu Trophy were scheduled to begin this month, while the Senior Women’s T20 League was scheduled to begin in February.
The BCCI, in a statement, said that the board does not wish to compromise on the safety of players, support staff, match officials and other participants and has, therefore, decided to put all three tournaments on hold until further orders. The BCCI will continue to assess the situation and accordingly take a decision on starting the tournament. The board said that the BCCI appreciates the efforts of all those who have given their best to host more than 700 matches in 11 tournaments in the ongoing 2021-22 domestic season.
