Hazaribagh: Illegal coal business is flourishing indiscriminately in remote areas of Keredari. Coal is being transported overnight from the forest area of Bariatu, Kandaber, Manatu and Lajidag in the district. Hundreds of tractors are being used in transporting coal to the brick kilns of remote villages with great ease.
As per local sources, the coal mafia does illegal coal business by making mines in Kandaber Bariatu forest of Keredari police station area, Pokharia mine of Lajidag and Dhamdhamiya forest of Manatu. The cost of one trolley of coal is taken from 5000 to 6000 rupees. Every day 20 to 30 tractors are engaged for coal transportation in Manatu and Lajidag. Coal traders take advantage of the dense forest and night. Mining activity is done throughout the day and while transportation is done in night hours.
Local police authority closed these illegal mines by running a campaign. However no coal trader were arrested during this operation. Many police personnel, including the station in-charge, were present in the during the process of filling up mines.
