Dhankhar and Mamata pay tribute to Bravehearts of the Indian Army to mark Kargil Diwas

Kolkata, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday paid glowing tributes to Bravehearts of the Indian Army to mark Kargil Vijay Diwas, to commemorate the victory of Operation Vijay.

On this day in 1999, the Indian Army had launched a strategic operation to recapture the Indian territories from Pakistani intruders in the Kargil-Drass sector.
The anniversary is observed each year across India to show respect and gratitude to the brave servicemen of the armed forces, who laid down their lives to re-capture all positions that had been seized by the Pakistan Army.

The Kargil War took place between May 3 and July 26, 1999, in the Kargil district of Kashmir and elsewhere along the Line of Control (LOC).

” Salutations to the saga of valour and gallantry of the heroes of the Kargil War and Operation Vijay The Nation will remain ever grateful to them and their families,” the Governor said while paying his tributes to the Bravehearts.

” Nation always first is the Mantra imparted by martyrs that we all need to ever bear in mind,” added Mr Dhankhar.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said ” On Kargil Vijay Diwas, I salute the heroes who made the supreme sacrifice to protect our country.
India will forever remain indebted to the Bravehearts,”
The Indian Army, Eastern sector, also observing the day with the main programme at the Fort William, the headquarters of Eastern Command.
