New Delhi: To meet the demand of coal in various thermal power plants across the country, railway is making all possible efforts to pace the transportation of coal. So far railway has cancelled as many as 1100 trains which include mail express and passenger train. Railway has done this to ease the traffic on routes through which coal supply has to be made.
It is being told that these trains have been cancelled so that the coal-laden goods trains being supplied to the thermal power plant can be easily given way. On the coal crisis, Union Minister Prahlad Joshi had informed recently that there is a stock of 21 million tonnes of coal in thermal power plants, which is enough for the coming several days. At the same time, including Coal India, India currently has a stock of 80 days.
The central government says that due to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, coal imports have been affected. Apart from this, it is being told that remaining payment dues of coal companies in Jharkhand is also one of the reasons for the interruption of coal supply.
